Roberto's Mexican Food - Del Mar is a vibrant Mexican restaurant that masterfully serves authentic, crave-worthy dishes with a coastal San Diego flair. Located conveniently at 2206 Carmel Valley Rd, this spot has become a beloved local favorite for breakfast, brunch, and casual dining. Whether you're a fan of traditional Mexican fare or looking for a satisfying fast-food fix, Roberto's offers an impressive menu rich in flavor, variety, and generous portions.

Step into Roberto's, and you're immediately greeted by an inviting atmosphere that strikes a balance between casual comfort and family-friendly warmth—perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or loved ones. The outdoor seating area also offers a relaxed vibe with cool views of the backside of Torrey Pines, making it an excellent choice for soaking in the Southern California breeze as you savor your meal.

The menu is packed with mouthwatering options, ranging from breakfast delights like the iconic Breakfast Burrito and hearty Hashbrown Breakfast Burritos to lunch favorites such as the Carne Asada Burrito, Fish Tacos, and the ever-popular Carne Asada Taco. The rich, smoky carne asada is a standout, perfectly grilled and infused with bold spices that leave a satisfying, savory impression. Fans of seafood will appreciate the fresh, flaky fish featured in the Fish Burrito and Shrimp Taco, both of which capture the zest and vibrancy of Baja-style Mexican cooking.

For those seeking something a little different, the Citrus Pollo Asado offers a delightful citrus-infused chicken experience, bright and juicy with each bite, while the Al Pastor Taco brings a hint of sweetness and warmth from its marinated pork. On the side, the Asada Fries and Asada Nachos are indulgent options that perfectly complement the mains, featuring hearty, seasoned toppings and melted cheese — great for sharing or satisfying those hungry late afternoon cravings.

The salsas at Roberto’s truly shine. With a variety that ranges from mild to fiery, including an unforgettable habanero salsa that's both fiercely spicy and addictively flavorful, every dish can be personalized to your preferred level of heat and boldness. Crispy rolled tacos, classic soft tacos, and generous burritos pair beautifully with fresh guacamole or a refreshing Jarritos soda to round out the meal.

Customer reviews underscore the quality and appeal of Roberto’s offerings. Zachary Zhu praises the solid flavors and the ever-popular, generously-sized tacos that make two enough to satisfy a full meal. Kelly Mcdonald highlights not just the fantastic salsa but also the friendly, welcoming staff and the charming outdoor dining experience near the coast. Though some diners find the tacos a bit pricey, the portion sizes and food quality offer excellent value, making trips here memorable—whether it’s a quick lunch or a relaxed evening out.

Whether you’re revisiting childhood favorites like Tova Edling or discovering Roberto’s through delivery and then returning for the fresh-off-the-grill experience as Jeremy Gee did, this Del Mar favorite lives up to its reputation with consistently flavorful Mexican dishes, warm service, and a comfortable environment that invites you to come back again and again.

Solid Mexican food in the border right by the beach. Thought the pork in the taco was a bit dry but solid flavor and the salsa was great - they also have quite a few options to choose from. Note that while the tacos are quite pricey, they’re also massive so 2 tacos are enough for a meal. There’s definitely a bit of a line around lunchtime but service is pretty quick.

After first discovering this spot through a DoorDash order, I was impressed enough by their California Burrito to make a return visit in person—and I’m glad we did. This time, my daughter and I got to enjoy the food fresh off the grill, and it was even better than we remembered. I went with the California Burrito again, loaded with extra carne asada and chipotle sauce, while my daughter opted for the Arizona Burrito—a Cali-style wrap with grilled chicken instead. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The only real challenge was finding parking during the busy lunch rush, but the warm, friendly service from the two ladies at the counter and the incredible flavor of the food made it worth every bit of effort. If you’re in the area and craving a satisfying burrito, this is definitely the place to go.

Interesting spot at a corner; due to the darkness, we could see the ocean but could hear it! A wonderful experience. The tacos weren't impressive, which is why they got 4 stars. Although they were tasty, it was worth the 20 km drive from our hotel to get there.

Always eat here when i am in San Diego. Great outside eating area and super friendly people. The salsa is great. The habanero salsa will burn your face off, but is addicting and delicious. Cool views of the backside of Torrey pines.
